Alex will present the upcoming Startup Weekend event in a hardly-disguised attempt to suck up to the most important crowd for successful Startup Weekends: hackers!
How far can you get with your startup idea in one weekend? A lot if you look at the experience from the Startup Weekend team (www.startupweekend.org, a non-profit organization run by two young guys out of Seattle). Over 65 events have been run in 14 countries, 280 startups have started and 9.000+ entrepeneurs have been inspired. And for the first time Startup Weekend is coming to Copenhagen (www.copenhagen.startupweekend.org) and the Nordics: simultaneous events will be run in major cities on April 9th to 11th.
A Startup Weekend is a gathering of 150 or so people passionate about technology and startups for a 54 hour period. The event starts on Friday evening with anyone pitching an idea (in one minute or less); the crowd then votes on the best 10 or so ideas and teams (of hackers, designers, social media experts, and, yes, even business developers) are formed around those ideas to work through to Sunday night. Many real startups have come out of the events but just as importantly some great match making has occured and a lot of fun has been had.
